World Oceans Day – Say No to Plastic, Sip by Sip with BWT
Every year on June 8th, the world unites to celebrate World Oceans Day – a time to reflect on the vital role oceans play in sustaining life and to raise awareness of the growing threats they face. Among the most urgent of these threats is plastic pollution.
At BWT, our mission goes beyond delivering great-tasting mineralized water. We are committed to protecting natural resources, reducing plastic waste, and ensuring access to clean, safe water – all while making sustainability part of daily life.
This World Oceans Day, we’re shining a spotlight on the plastic crisis in our oceans and how we can each be part of the solution – sip by sip.
Why are oceans under threat?
Oceans are not only home to diverse ecosystems – they also regulate the Earth’s climate, generate oxygen, and support billions of livelihoods. However, they are now under more pressure than ever.
According to research released in 2023, ocean temperatures have reached record highs. Seas are now warmer than at any other time in recorded human history and the increase in temperature has been directly linked to global warming.

Scientists have found that human activities – such as the burning of fossil fuels and emissions from industry – release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These gases trap more of the sun's heat, leading to rising global temperatures and, in turn, warmer oceans.
This increase in ocean temperature has far-reaching consequences. It affects marine currents, melts ice caps, and most critically, disrupts marine ecosystems. Many marine animals and plants are now struggling to adapt, with coral bleaching and habitat loss becoming increasingly common.
The Devastating Impact of Plastic Pollution on Marine Life
While climate change affects oceans at a global scale, plastic pollution delivers a more visible – yet equally devastating – blow to marine life. Of the 430 million tons of plastic produced globally every year, a large portion ends up in rivers and oceans. Plastic bottles are one of the main culprits.
🔹Over 1 million plastic bottles are purchased every minute across the globe.
🔹Only 9% of them are recycled. The rest often end up in landfills, rivers, or oceans.
🔹Plastic bottles take up to 450 years to decompose.
Once in the ocean, plastic waste doesn't just float on the surface. Over time, it breaks down into microplastics, tiny fragments that are ingested by marine animals, from plankton and fish to seabirds, turtles, and whales.
These microplastics then accumulate through the food chain, eventually making their way into human diets. Researchers have even found microplastics in sea salt, seafood, and drinking water – raising serious concerns about long-term health effects.

Moreover, scientists warn that by 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the oceans by weight if we continue on the current path
And the issue goes beyond waste. Producing bottled water is also highly resource-intensive
🔹 It takes up to 3 liters of water to produce just 1 liter of bottled water.
🔹 The energy and emissions from manufacturing and transporting bottles contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, which further accelerate climate change.
This vicious cycle of waste and warming threatens the health of our oceans – and all who depend on them.
Say No to Plastic, Sip by Sip with BWT
At BWT, we believe real change starts with small, consistent actions. That’s why we develop solutions that make it easy – and enjoyable – to reduce your plastic footprint every day.
BWT Climate Bottle
A reusable, beautifully designed water bottle that replaces hundreds of plastic bottles every year. Just fill it with BWT Magnesium Mineralized Water and take it wherever you go – it’s good for your body and even better for the planet.
We act in the interests of our environment, because no disposable plastic bottles must be bought and disposed of. There is also no need for strenuous hauling or storing water bottles.

BWT Filtration Systems
Our advanced filter cartridges such as the BWT Woda-Pure Mineralizer XL Mg + CUF Protect, and the BWT AQA Drink MPC500 transform ordinary tap water into clean, safe, and great-tasting mineralized water.
Just one BWT Magnesium Mineralized Water filter cartridge can save up to 7,200 plastic bottles. Not only do these filters remove impurities, but they also enrich your water with natural magnesium, supporting your overall well-being.
With a BWT system, your kitchen tap becomes a reliable source of high-quality water, eliminating the need for bottled water entirely.
Every refill, every filter, every sip makes a real difference.

This World Oceans Day, Be the Change
The plastic crisis is not just an ocean problem – it’s a human problem. But the good news is each of us can help turn the tide.
Let’s protect marine life, reduce waste, and secure clean water for future generations.
🌿Join BWT in building a cleaner, healthier, more sustainable world. Stop Planet Plastic. Change the World – Sip by Sip.
